The Spanish Square - Chicago
LAKEVIEW — After extensive renovations took longer than expected, The Spanish Square will finally open its doors with a special New Year’s celebration.

True to its authentic Spanish roots, the new market and tapas bar will feature Las doce uvas de la suerte, the traditional Twelve Grapes of Luck.

Eating 12 grapes for each stroke of midnight on the new year is meant to bring good luck and health — a Spanish tradition that dates back to the 1900s.

On New Year’s Eve, customers can see The Spanish Square, 1358 W. Belmont Ave., for the first time since it began renovations in March in the former El Pacifico.

The open house will be from 3-6 p.m. New Year’s Eve and 10 a.m. to noon on New Year’s Day, meaning there will be a chance to celebrate at midnight in Spain, which will be at 5 p.m. Central time.

Spanish wine, tapas and the dozen grapes will be a part of the open house, which is the soft opening for The Spanish Square.

The combination tapas bar, Spanish market and wine bodega is modeled after the Plaza del Cabildo in Andalucía, Spain. All three will feature authentic Spanish ingredients like saffron and Jamon Iberico, and the building itself is decorated with Spanish flavor and treasures from across the sea.

Back in March, co-owners Mara Baer and husband Manuel Moreno envisioned hosting wine tastings, flamenco dancing and paella nights.

A formal grand opening is planned for March.[/fusion_text][fusion_images picture_size=”auto” hover_type=”none” autoplay=”yes” columns=”5″ column_spacing=”13″ scroll_items=”” show_nav=”yes” mouse_scroll=”no” border=”yes” lightbox=”yes” class=”” id=””][fusion_image link=”” linktarget=”_self” image=”http://www.thespanishsquare.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/img_0225_23707904149_o.0-300×200.jpg” alt=””/][fusion_image link=”” linktarget=”_self” image=”http://www.thespanishsquare.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/img_0150_23993162041_o.0-300×199.jpg” alt=””/][fusion_image link=”” linktarget=”_self” image=”http://www.thespanishsquare.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/img_0155_23967609542_o.0-300×210.jpg” alt=””/][fusion_image link=”” linktarget=”_self” image=”http://www.thespanishsquare.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/img_0156_23967607782_o.0-300×199.jpg” alt=””/][fusion_image link=”” linktarget=”_self” image=”http://www.thespanishsquare.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/img_0161_23993153531_o.0-300×197.jpg” alt=””/][fusion_image link=”” linktarget=”_self” image=”http://www.thespanishsquare.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/img_0166_23447512254_o.0-300×197.jpg” alt=””/][fusion_image link=”” linktarget=”_self” image=”http://www.thespanishsquare.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/img_0175_23447508644_o.0-300×192.jpg” alt=””/][fusion_image link=”” linktarget=”_self” image=”http://www.thespanishsquare.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/img_0190_23448947693_o.0-300×206.jpg” alt=””/][fusion_image link=”” linktarget=”_self” image=”http://www.thespanishsquare.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/img_0196_23993139971_o.0-300×188.jpg” alt=””/][fusion_image link=”” linktarget=”_self” image=”http://www.thespanishsquare.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/img_0220_23993127271_o.0-300×198.jpg” alt=””/][fusion_image link=”” linktarget=”_self” image=”http://www.thespanishsquare.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/img_0212_23967581362_o.0-300×185.jpg” alt=””/][fusion_image link=”” linktarget=”_self” image=”http://www.thespanishsquare.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/img_0236_24075706285_o.0-300×200.jpg” alt=””/][fusion_image link=”” linktarget=”_self” image=”http://www.thespanishsquare.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/img_0248_24075702055-300×189.jpg” alt=””/][fusion_image link=”” linktarget=”_self” image=”http://www.thespanishsquare.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/img_0242_24075704425_o.0-300×203.jpg” alt=””/][/fusion_images][fusion_text]
